Submissions and Snow!!!

I really do like winter, but about this time of year, I start to get tired of it. Tonight it is raining, then snowing, then raining again. Honestly, I would rather have the snow and cold because then I don't have a muddy back yard and 12 furry feet to drag it all inside (to go along with all the fur that ends up on the floors!)

The kids are weighing their chances of a day off school or a 2 hour delay. Probably pretty slim chance, but thier hopes are up anyway. The temp is hovering around 32, so who knows what might happen if it gets just a little colder. We really haven't had more than a couple of inches at at time this season, which is disappointing. That is the only reason that I am not whole hog into spring feaver is because I feel like we have been cheated out of a good snowfall.

Enough complianing about the weather (can't change it, so why complain? I guess it is fun!) I have been finishing up a big design submission, probably just a few more hours before I am ready to send it off. I have high hopes, as I am pretty happy with the yarn and the designs. I feel positive, and will keep my fingers crossed that the submittee (?) will feel the same way.

Test Completed

I must say that the Woven Braid Ski Hat passed the test. We skied in everything from single digits and high wind speed, to just above freezing and the hat performed wonderfully. The bulk from the braids is a good insulator, so my ears never suffered. I love to ski, but I hate to get cold. I guess you could call me a fair weather skier!

The good news is that our group of 63 skied 3 days with no injuries. The scouts even survived "stupid day". Traditionally, on the last day, they try something a bit beyond their ability, when they are the most tired. That is when the bones start to break - "stupid day". Either they were lucky, or they listened to the lecture (no.... that can't be!)

Got a fair amount of design work and swatching done on the plane and bus, but I have a deadline to meet. This will be a busy week for me with knitting, laundry and cleaning. I am so surprised that my husband and older son did not clean anything while I was away. Does that happen to you?? I am pretty sure you can all relate.

Woven Braid Ski Hat

Well, my impromtu design is done. I hope you all like it! It works great out in the cold. It was 6 degrees F here today, and because the cables really thicken the fabric, it kept my ears toasty warm.

Has this ever happend to you?

Today, while packing for our ski trip, I was rooting around in our hall coat closet I found a garbage bag full of yarn that I totally forgot about. It is totally crazy, because it is really good stuff. A couple of silk wool blends and some beautiful cotton. A good amount of each yarn, plenty for a large sweater out of each. I know when I got it....last June, when one of our LYS went out of business. They were clearing everything out, and they had run out of their regular shopping bags and were using garbage bags as shopping bags since they didn't want to purchase any excess supplies.

I had gotten an afghan's worth of Noro Transitions at the same time to make my Newlywed Afghan for my Neice and her husband. I guess I just got wrapped up in that and other design work. I just stuffed this away.....out of sight, out of mind apparently! It is like finding money in the pocket of a jacket that you haven't worn in 6 months or a year. Way cool. I am using a bit of it to make a hat for the ski trip. After all, it is just a few days away, so I started today. I am winging it, so if I like it, I can use it for a new design. I love working this way. Probably not the most effecient way of designing, but it is fun this way.

What to take?

I am getting ready to go on a ski trip with my youngest and a whole gaggle of Boy Scouts. We are flying, so I am trying to decide what to take on the plane. This is just a quick weekend trip, and all the winter gear is so big and fluffy and HEAVY, so I don't want to add much more weight and bulk. I will probably bring some socks...and my sketchbook. I hate to run out of things to do when I am traveling. On this trip, being that we will be with a group, and can't really stray from the group, I won't have the opportunity to run out and get anyhing. Scout motto is "Be Prepared." Guess I will need to follow the motto.

I am making steady progress on my design work, and I would like to take it with me. I think it would just take up too much space, and too much concentration, so it will have to stay home. Except for the sketch book... that is going. I may have to bring the colored pencils, and maybe the color card. I feel the bag getting fuller...

Congratulations Giants

Whoooo Hoooooo!!!!! I am so happy that the Giants won the Super Bowl. What a great victory pulled out in the end. Eli did a fantastic job - didn't get flustered and completed the passes when they counted. My favorite play was at the end when the Giants defense just plowed Brady over - that was so good. Once again, Belichick shows what a poor sport he is by leaving the field before the game was over and not shaking hands or congratulating the other team. Makes me really glad that we have Dungy.

Oh yeah, I worked on a pair of wool socks during the game, but did not make too much progress. I am also having gobs of fun playing with my lovely new yarn from*********. I am working on a whole bunch of designs for *****, *******, and ****. Can't wait to let the cat out of the bag, except that I really have to wait. I will share at some yet to be determined later date.

Mardi Gras

Just got back from the Mardi Gras Auction - I didn't go to the dinner this year. I just went to volunteer in the check out room (where the attendees pay for the things that they purchased in the live and silent auction.) I did go a bit early so that I could scope out the items that I donated. All in all it was a very good event, and I was happy with the results from my items, the letter sweater, handbag, and knitting lessons. I think the lessons brought in the most money, and I am anxious to see who purchased it. I know who got the sweater, and she was very happy about winning it. Don't know who got the purse, but I am sure I will find out soon. I am bound to see someone carrying it! I think some good money was raised - which is very gratifying - because I so love the school and the church, and I am happy that I could help a little bit.,

Now, just a bit of football. GO GIANTS .......BEAT THE (EVIL) PATRIOTS!! C'MON ELY -ALL OF US COLTS FANS ARE CHEERING FOR YOU!!!!!
